AUDACITY IN LEADERSHIP
Break the Rules, Trust Your Gut and Crash the Boundaries
THE COURSE
Great management is all about structure, frameworks, order and reliability. Great leadership has an element of chaos, energy and uncertainty to it. We can't all be Steve Jobs, but we can learn when to go out on a limb and challenge the status quo.
This course teaches what I've learned about Audacity - the creation and championing of new possibilities. Adding Audacity to your leadership style allows you to go into difficult situations with more confidence, create energy when things are flat-lining, and deal with disruptive challenges — from the market, the technology landscape or people and organizations.
WHEN
Timing is critical. We'll look at considering an audacious move when:
-
there are no good options
-
morale/productivity is flatlining
-
there are significant external challenges
-
you see significant opportunities outside your current frameworks
FINDING "THE DOOR"
Once you know you want to make an audacious move, how do you find "the door" - the way into the new possibility?
-
change your "Manager Mindset" to "Determined Optimism"
-
start a practice of "Directed Openness"
-
ask "What If?", "Why Not?", "How About...:"
MAKING IT HAPPEN
Once you have found "The Door" become the champion of the new possibility.
Adopt two personas:
-
visionary: storyteller, painting the picture of the new world, bringing people along through emotion
-
super Manager: organizing the path, driving the changes

JOE DUNN - WHO I AM
I’m a leader, mentor and coach with over twenty years of experience in fast-moving software startups.
Three became successful public companies, and fourth sold for $250M+
My experience covers everything from being one of “three guys in a room” to an officer of a public company. (And a traveling surf bum, barely capable yoga student, skilled improv performer, and twenty-five year student of meditation).
I coach leaders of all kinds (CEOs, CTOs, Engineers, Sales, Marketing) in rapidly-growing tech companies in San Francisco and the Bay Area, from seed-size to “unicorns”.
